Over a seven-year period passenger traffic at the Calgary International Airport grew by approximately seventy per cent. The rapid growth in aircraft movements facilitated the need to construct a jet fuel storage facility consisting of three 4.5 million litre tanks.
To keep pace with growing demand, an additional $3 million project was undertaken by the Calgary Fuel Facilities Corporation to construct a fourth tank along with an additional tanker truck-offloading lane complete with new pump, meter, filter and valving.
The third offloading island incorporates a designated refueller truck loading arm for jet fuel. Modifications to existing cathodic protection were completed to encompass a fourth tank. The project also involved the integration of the PLC system to include the fourth storage tank, loading arm, offloading lane and all required hardware and software.
