The growth of the Alberta economy triggered an expansion of the terminal facilities at the Edmonton International Airport to keep pace with growing demand and to improve on-airport fuel reserves.
A $7 million project involving the construction of two 1.8 million litre aboveground storage tanks, the installation of a new gas bar, and an upgrade of the existing OWS system was undertaken by the Edmonton Fuel Facilities Corporation.
The new storage tanks increased the jet fuel reserve from four to ten days. The expanded dyke area houses storage tanks for gas and diesel as part of a motive fuel station featuring all aboveground piping.
