Jet Fuel Hydrant System Expansion
The Vancouver Airport Authority announced plans in 2006 to expand the domestic terminal facilities at the Vancouver International Airport in response to growth in the domestic travel sector. The expanded domestic terminal is supplied with fuel through a new underground pipeline and hydrant system that is connected to the existing underground network.
The new $6.5 million system provides in-ground fuelling for up to thirteen new aircraft gates. The facilities were built upon one of the oldest areas of the existing terminal where significant accumulations of petroleum product existed below ground, which were removed prior to the new construction.
Scope of Services
FSM Group managed the planning, design and construction activities related to the underground jet fuel pipeline and hydrant system to complement the domestic terminal expansion. In addition, the deep excavation and remediation of the contaminated area was planned and managed by FSM Group. Upon completion of the project, FSM Group oversaw the commissioning and testing of the new system, and certified it for use.
