In Montréal, there are fuel facilities in operation at the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Montréal-Mirabel International Airport (YMX), which services cargo flights only. Both facilities consist of a jet fuel storage tank farm, an underground jet fuel hydrant system, and gasoline and diesel storage and distribution facilities.
In recent years, the jet fuel infrastructure has undergone significant expansion at Montréal-Trudeau in order to keep pace with the Aéroports de Montréal’s passenger terminal development program.
Services at both airports are provided by the Canadian Fuel Consortia, and include facilities administration, into-plane fuelling, and tank farm management. Jet fuel is delivered to Montréal-Mirabel by tanker truck and is distributed using refuelling tankers. At Montréal-Trudeau, jet fuel is received by pipeline and tanker truck, and is then distributed to each aircraft gate through the hydrant system. Approximately 88,000 flights are fuelled annually at Montréal-Trudeau and Montréal-Mirabel combined.
